How to get there and away

Getting to Paje

Paje is a village in Zanzibar in Tanzania. It is on the east coast of Zanzibar (or actually the island of Unguga), which is one of the two Zanzibar Archipelago islands, together with Pemba.

There are many ways of getting there. You can take public transport, rent a car or a motorbike in Stone Town. Some people even come with a rented bike, to our surprise, we even had some visitors coming by foot. It took them a full day from the centre of town.

Paje is only a 45 min drive from Stone Town (capital city of Zanzibar). From Stone Town you can take a taxi, shared cab or a ‘dala dala’ (local transport) to Paje. When arriving in Paje turn left at the junction, drive about 200 meters and turn right (after de Dhow Inn sign) on the little sandy road that leads to the guesthouse. Most taxi drivers will know where it is, so don’t worry. Getting to Paje costs between 2$ (Dala dala) to 40$ (private taxi). Note that the travel time it takes to get there with a Dala dala is about half an hour longer than with a taxi, as the Dala dala stops everywhere.

And if you should get lost, ask around. The locals will point you in the right direction. And don’t forget to say ‘asante!’ (thank you!).
